Originally started in 2016 to do small South Shore residential projects, First Pen Studio became full-time for the owner Oliver in 2021.
The company provides residential and commercial-residential landscape design of projects in Atlantic Canada. We aim to provide inspiring landscape design that combines a contemporary aesthetic with a functionality to suit a client’s needs and budget. We liaise regularly with our clients throughout a project and use our technical expertise to produce the designs. We then work with the best contractors and our clients to see the project through to the end of construction.
We get our kicks by creating designs that bind these ingredients together and seeing it being constructed into places for people to enjoy.
Why The Name?
The name First Pen Studio comes from a play on the words 'First Peninsula' where Oliver lived and a pen being the tool that starts the project!
Oliver Bence, APALA, CSLA, CMLI, has over 17 years experience as a landscape architect in Canada, the UK and the US.

He become a landscape architect after spending a year doing conservation work in the amazing landscapes of Australia's outback and wanting a career that was artistic, creative and environmental.
